Five years after the short film Cargo wowed festival audience, its feature-length version is set to debut theatrically in Australia and on Netflix in the United States.
The new version stars Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Black Panther) as a father desperate to save his infant daughter from a zombie pandemic. Complicating matters is the fact that the father has himself become infected and is slowing undergoing the transformation into a zombie himself.
Like the short film it is based on, Cargo was written by Yolanda Ramke and directed by Ramke with Ben Howling. As evidenced by the trailer, there is considerably more going on in the feature-length version including the addition of an aboriginal child who becomes a traveling companion for the protagonist.
The trailer indicates a release date of May 17, which would be the theatrical release in Australia, where the film is set. It will be released a day later on Netflix.
