Operating under the assumption that a zombie isn’t going to possess superhuman strength, body armor probably won’t be necessary to protect yourself from them. That doesn’t mean that certain protective
equipment won’t have its place in the coming apocalypse.
One of the most useful of these is the throat guard used by goalies in soccer and hockey.
Why? It is generally accepted that a zombie’s most dangerous attack will be its bite.
Given the limitations of the human jaw, the most likely bite locations will be the victim’s arms or neck. A heavy coat can provide protection to the arms, but most of those are still open at the neck. The throat guards can be worn under clothing, have a limited impact on mobility and designed to take abuse.
