Resident Evil 4: New Trailer Promises New and Familiar Excitement

Capcom teased Resident Evil fans on February 23 with another action-packed trailer for the long-awaited Resident Evil 4 remake. With the promise of all the memories of Leon’s adventures, a new mercenaries mode, and a “special demo coming soon,” the trailer gives more amp to this upcoming game.

The trailer shows many of the familiar scenes as Leon attempts to rescue the president’s Daughter, Ashley, with the updated graphics of the modern consoles. With glimpses of Luis Sera as your plucky sidekick, Agent Krauser appearing for his long-awaited rematch, and Ada Wong there ready to help and hinder as her mission dictates, this trailer packs enough to keep any die-hard fan in a nostalgic mood. 

Still, despite the focus on the story of the game, this trailer’s highlight is the inclusion of a mercenaries mode and the promise of a demo soon.

Not much is known about the specifics of this mercenaries mode, but according to the PlayStation website, “The popular extra game mode that appears throughout the Resident Evil Series with also appear in RE4.” PlayStation reported that The Mercenaries mode will be available post-launch as a free DLC.

No Date as been announced for the special demo, but it will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5 as soon as it drops. According to the PlayStation website, “survival is just the beginning,” so get ready to face the demo.

The original Resident Evil 4 was released in 2005 and followed Leon Kennedy’s attempts to rescue the president’s daughter, Ashley Graham, who’s been kidnapped by a mysterious cult in an unnamed rural village in Spain. It was a survival horror game that holds up against many of its modern predecessors.

The announcement of the remake came as no surprise to many who have kept up with the series following the release of the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019 and the subsequent release of the Resident Evil 3 remake in 2020.

Capcom reports that the Resident Evil 4 remake began development in 2018 and is finally set for release in 2023. With the five-year wait for fans, PlayStation says, “Resident Evil 4 preserves the essence of the original game while introducing modern gameplay and visuals.”

Resident Evil for is available for pre-order on PS4, PS5, steam, and Xbox Series X and will be released on March 24, 2023.
