Zombie Nutrition: The Science of the Undead Diet

They are questions that have plagued us for decades: Why do zombies eat? Are they after our brains or something else entirely? And if they are eating our brains, are they getting any nutritional value from it?

To answer these questions, we need to understand a little bit about the digestive system of the undead. You see, zombies are not like us in many ways, and their digestive system is no exception. For one, they don’t have the luxury of saliva. This means that when they take a bite out of a human, they’re not really chewing their food. Instead, they’re just tearing off chunks and swallowing them whole.

But that’s just the beginning. Zombies also lack a functioning circulatory system, which means they don’t have any blood flow to help distribute nutrients throughout their body. Instead, their food just sits in their stomach, slowly decomposing over time.

So, what does all of this mean for the nutritional value of a zombie’s diet? Well, it’s safe to say that it’s not exactly nutritious. The lack of chewing means that zombies are not breaking down their food into smaller, more digestible pieces. And without a functioning circulatory system, they’re not able to transport nutrients to where they’re needed in the body.

But let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the brain. Yes, it’s true that zombies are often depicted as brain-eaters. And while there’s no denying that a brain is full of nutrients, it’s not exactly a balanced meal. Brains are high in fat and cholesterol, and they don’t contain all of the essential nutrients that a zombie needs to survive.

So, what’s a zombie to do? Well, the good news is that zombies don’t really need to eat. They’re already dead, after all. They’re not trying to sustain their bodies in the way that we are. Instead, they’re driven by a primal urge to feed, to satisfy their hunger. And while their diet may not be nutritious, it’s certainly effective at keeping them going.

In conclusion, the science of the undead diet is a complex and fascinating field. While zombies may not be the healthiest eaters, their unique physiology allows them to survive on a diet that would be deadly to us. So, the next time you encounter a zombie, don’t be too quick to judge their eating habits. After all, they’re just doing what they need to do to stay alive (sort of).
