For some people simply playing a video game isn’t enough. To really enjoy themselves, these ultra gamers need to take the game’s code apart and see what else might be lurking inside.

Dataminers stripping down Super Mario Odyssey were surprised to find a version of the usually family friendly plumber that was a bit more gruesome than what fans are used to.

For those unfamiliar, Super Mario Odyssey was released just before Halloween 2017 for the Nintendo Switch. In it, Mario and Cappy, a spirit that turns into Mario’s hat and allows him to possess other characters and objects, journey across various worlds to save Princess Peach from his nemesis Bowser, who plans to forcibly marry her.

The zombie costume was one of seven discovered in the code. It was not clear if the costumes might be unlocked as downloadable content or are simply leftovers from unfinished plans.
