Norman Reedus talks Daryl Dixon and filming The Walking Dead

Norman Reedus, the actor behind the fan-favorite character Daryl Dixon in AMC’s hit show The Walking Dead, recently shared a link to a YouTube video posted by LifestyleMirror. In the clip, Reedus discusses the evolution of his character and what it’s like filming on location.

“I’m very thankful that the writers have have allowed me to sort of build this character from scratch,” Reedus said. “He is complex, you know.”

Reedus said his past acting experiences helped him prepare for a role in the hard-scrabble life of zombie apocalypse.

“I’ve killed somebody in everything I’ve ever done,” he said. “I’m good at rage and I’m good at insecurities.”

As for shooting the television series, Reedus said the group has become a tight family and its fun to come to work every day. He said a recent experience on the set of an indie film showed him just how special the show is.

“I sat around there were all these famous actor cool guys sitting around on their Blackberries just like ignoring each other and having no fun at all,” he said. “And I was just like I just wanna go back to Georgia.”

Reedus said he is excited for season 3 to unfold because of the high energy, take no prisoners style of the storytelling.

“I hope I last forever,” he said. “Although it’s a zombie show — you never know when you’re going to kick it.”

  1. That is so wonderful! We are heidang to Florida in two weeks for a family vacation. It’s been a hell of a year for my son in the hospital and would live to surprise him by letting him see some locations. Is there any chance that they would be filming around November 3rd in Georgia?

    • It is possible, the production usually wraps up filming in November. However, I don’t have access to the filming schedule, so I couldn’t tell you for sure.
