The Soska Sisters, horror directors known for films like “Rabid” and “American Mary,” are set to bring us a unique cinematic experience with their upcoming film, “Festival of the Living Dead.” This new movie will pay homage to George A. Romero’s iconic “Night of the Living Dead” while carving its own path in the zombie genre. And the best part? It will be available for free streaming on Tubi.
“Festival of the Living Dead” takes place more than 50 years after the events of Romero’s groundbreaking 1968 film. In this intriguing sequel of sorts, the original zombie attack has evolved into a macabre celebration known as the Festival of the Living Dead. The story follows Ash, played by Ashley Moore (“I Know What You Did Last Summer”), a young woman caught between her boyfriend and her old friends as she embarks on a journey to attend the festival.
Little does Ash know that her excursion to the Festival of the Living Dead will take an unexpected turn. A blast of radioactive space dust disrupts the festivities, transforming most of the attendees into bloodthirsty zombies. Now, Ash and her friends must band together to defend themselves against the relentless onslaught of the living dead, or risk becoming a part of their ravenous horde.
Ash is a recent college acceptance recipient torn between her boyfriend and her old friends. When her boyfriend surprises her with tickets to the Festival of the Living Dead, she seizes the opportunity to witness her favorite band perform live. Alongside Moore, Camren Bicondova (“Gotham”) stars as Iris, Ash’s best friend, who takes on the responsibility of watching over Ash’s younger brother, Luke, during the festival.
While “Festival of the Living Dead” is not a direct sequel to Romero’s original masterpiece, it will be set in the same universe, making it a treat for fans of the classic film. The legacy of Romero’s zombie movies continues to thrive, and this new installment keeps the spirit of his work alive.
One of the fascinating aspects of “Night of the Living Dead” is that the film is in the public domain, allowing filmmakers to explore and expand upon the material without facing legal constraints. This freedom enables the Soska Sisters to delve into the Living Dead universe, crafting a story that captivates audiences and pays homage to the genre’s roots.
Joining Moore and Bicondova in this thrilling cinematic experience is a talented ensemble cast, including Andre Anthony (“The Night Agent”), Christian Rose, Shiloh O’Reilly (“The Haunted Museum”), Gage Marsh (“You Me Her”), Keana Lyn Bastidas (“The Hardy Boys”), and Maia Jae Bastidas (“Rabbit Hole”).
The film, produced by Jacob Nasser, will be distributed by Enlighten Content and is set to premiere on Tubi this fall. Tubi’s free streaming service allows fans to dive into the world of “Festival of the Living Dead” without any additional cost, making it accessible to a wide audience.
The Soska Sisters, Jen and Sylvia Soska, have made a name for themselves as visionary horror directors. Their debut feature, “Dead Hooker in a Trunk,” garnered attention, leading to other successful projects like “American Mary” and “See No Evil 2.” Their distinct style and knack for storytelling ensure that “Festival of the Living Dead” will be an unforgettable addition to their body of work.
